Cuttlefish Skin In Close Up Is Like Watching A Vivid Hallucination

Nature is awesome. The kind of stuff you find in nature doesn’t compare with anything the human mind can imagine. Well, at least not yet. If you think that’s an overstatement, make sure you watch the video below. The clip will not only make you question what you think, but it will also leave you questioning your senses. That’s because the clip will have you believe you’re actually hallucinating.
I bet I have your interest now. But what is the explanation for this mesmerizing effect?
It’s all encrypted in these magnificent creatures’ DNA. Octopuses and cuttlefish are masters of underwater camouflage. They can blend seamlessly against a coral or rock. However, squids face a different challenge as they have to hide in the open ocean. They have to mimic the subtle interplay of light, water, and waves.
So the question is: How do they do it?
Market squid have a spectacularly hypnotic appearance. They can control their appearance and change color to blend in with their environment through tiny organs in their skin called chromatophores. Each one of these tiny organs is packed with pigment, which help create this incredible effect you are about to see in the video below.
