It’s safe to say that one of the biggest worries people have when it comes to getting older is losing their independence and having to rely on others for help, even if it’s just for the little things. It’s hard asking for help, especially if you’re someone who has helped others your entire life, like the man in the video below is.
Douglas Marks, 82, was a firefighter for most of his life and was known as one of the most dedicated and courageous men in his department. After his retirement, though, Mark’s health started to deteriorate pretty badly.
The man suffered from emphysema, dementia, and multiple strokes. So his wife Maxine currently found herself in the situation to have to ask for emergency professional help. She called the fire department station where her husband used to work a lot on his behalf.
The guys there got used to the calls, but one day someone at the station realized Douglas Marks was actually Lieutenant Marks. The man is a hero at their station and the oldest living retired firefighter in their county. He’s definitely someone who all the other firefighters in the county look up to and respect for what he did in their line of work.
Here’s what happened after that.
