Kids and pets are a natural, maybe because, in many ways, pets are just like children. An animal shelter in Missouri decided to bring the two together in an inspiring project designed to help shelter dogs become more adoptable. Kids were asked to sit down next outside of the dogs kennel and read to them.
This was supposed to help shy dogs learn to relax around people and increases their chances for adoption. It would also help high-energy dogs understand that calm behavior is desirable. It’s a win-win situation, since it give kids an opportunity to improve their reading skills in an enjoyable way.
